Chris got an albino parakeet who we named snowball in spring 2014. His 10 gallon tank with carnivorous plants is on his desk in his UC Davis apartment.
Bird - we never really called her snowball - died on August 14, 2018. She had been listless for a while. The vet determined she had a lump somewhere in her chest. The 55 gallon aquarium has been inhabited for a while by three hermit crabs. The 10 gallon tank had 3 Colombian tetras (Hyphessobrycon columbianus) and a Congo tetra (Phenocogrammus interruptus). They were later traded in for 4 Beckford's Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi). These are no longer here.
Our newest addition was George, a parakeet named after grandpa. Unfortunately it flew into a mirror. We had a Roborovski hamster given to the kids by a cousin. Chris also had a paradise fish. Jocelyn adopted another Roborovski with one eye from Petco and named him Wink. Chris had two flagfish and a bunch of snails in a 10 gallon aquarium. Unfortunately they have died. Our pets use to swim in a 55 gallon plexiglas tank that's 48” wide, 20” high, and 13” deep. It sits on a homebuilt stand shaped somewhat like a squared off pyramid. Past inhabitents were a Koran angle, blue and yellow tangs, Picasso trigger, various hardy starter damsels (Domino, and a porcupine puffer, E.T. From this, it is evident that it is a marine environment. November 1998 - Poor old E.T. died. We then added a yellow tang and a Picasso trigger (huma huma). December 1998 - Still looking for another E.T. The Picasso was a bit small - the other fish bullied him and killed him. We're now down to two fish. Due to the external canister filter leaking in May 2000 and making the carpet around the aquarium stand wet, it was drained and the two fish, which was put in a 5 gallon aquarium, did not survive. |
